❥ Folkmore Roles & Attributes

Skills: Fluent in English and Cajun French; speaks some Japanese, skilled marksman with thrown projectiles, martial artist specializing in Savate and Bojutsu, master thief, gifted strategist. He's also a great cook and has a decent singing voice.
Canon Abilities:
  • Molecular Acceleration; He has the mutant ability to, through touch, tap into the potential energy in an object and convert it into kinetic energy explosively. The larger the object, the longer this charging process takes.
  • Molecular Dissolution; He is capable of charging an object and melting it on the molecular level, such as dissolving shrapnel from a man's torso.
  • Physical Enhancement; Remy's body is always producing more kinetic energy, which makes him the fastest someone of his size can be as well as the strongest and most agile. It isn't superhuman exactly, but he is always in peak form.
  • Accelerated Regeneration; When focusing intently, he can use his charging abilities to accelerate his cellular grow to heal quickly and even regrow things to an extent, though he can only accomplish the the latter when his abilities have been externally enhanced, such as by Sage.
  • Static Interference; He produces a type of static passively that scrambles his thoughts, making them very difficult for telepaths to read. He can enhance this statice when he focuses, making his mind nearly impossible to read.
  • Kinetic Shockwave; He is able to release the kinetic energy in his body in a shockwave accompanied by a flashbang that can even be strong enough to leave a crater.
  • Kinetic Cutting; He can use the edge of a charged object to cut other surfaces, such as glass.
  • Kinetic Acceleration; He can use his kinetic charge to, instead of blowing up an object, to continue it's movement, such as a car that was already in motion continuing to stay in the same motion beyond its own kinetic energy, thus being able to move objects further than he's physically able to push them.
  • Delayed Detonation; He has conscious control of his explosions as well, which allows them to have a timed detonation.
  • Hypnotic Charm; He can manipulate the energies in another's mind through the sound of his voice that makes them more likely to agree with him. Stronger minds, and those who are aware of this ability, are able to shake off the effects.

Role: Familiar
Role Qualities/Attributes: To start, he'll take the form of an Abyssinian
Role Reasoning: Gambit is one of the more pragmatic members of the X-Men team. On top of being the literal King of Thieves, which he still does on the side, he has a hero streak, but isn't afraid of getting his hands dirty and staying level-headed when less than honorable things are necessary. In essence, he's one of the more well-adjusted X-Men as well. He can be pragmatic, seeing when less than legal things need to happen to make sure what's right does happen and he's willing to risk not only himself, but his reputation to see it done regardless. He's also not afraid of helping those people see as 'villains' for the sake of it being the right thing to do. Moreover, while being a superhero, he doesn't see himself as particularly heroic, just as having a responsibility to use his powers to help when he can.
❥ Personality

OPTION 2

  • What is your character's moral code? Do they have one? Why or why not? Remy's father, the King of the New Orleans thieves guild, described him as a hopeless romantic with a chivalrous streak which would prove to be his undoing, and even through all the hardship he's witnessed, all the mistakes he's made, and all the times he's nearly died because of it, he can't ignore someone in need of help and will rush in to save them, mindless of the danger it poses to himself, or if anyone else may have a protest to the decision. He doesn't adhere to laws, but ultimately does what he thinks is right, and that usually centers around the protecting of innocents and helping those who need it.

  • If your character could change one thing about their past, what would it be and why? Or why not? When Remy was young and his powers were growing and volatile, he was afraid of them to the point that he entered into a very questionable deal with Nathanial Essex (Mr. Sinister). In exchange for performing a procedure to make his abilities more manageable, Remy agreed to assemble a team of mutants and lead them into a certain sewer system. He learned too late Essex intended this team to murder to the man the mutants taking refuge there, but ultimately couldn't do anything to prevent the slaughter, thought he was able to save one girl. The weight of the guilt over the Marauders has never lessened, and it colors his view of himself as much as it colors others' perceptions of him. He finds it difficult to believe he really has a full place at the side of the X-Men, and so he keeps to the outskirts, pragmatic and separate, ready to come when called, but keeping to himself if not.

  • What is your character's safespace? When do they feel the most settled and comfortable? When do they feel confident and relaxed?
A pragmatic loner by nature, even as he embraces the spotlight and enjoys working a room with his charisma or swindling unsuspecting gamblers out of their bets, Remy is most comfortable and relaxed when he's in his own space, getting to indulge his solo hobbies like reading or watching his favorite TV shows, or maybe spending time with a few close friends. He likes a good bar hop on occasion, the seedier the better, but he's most confident and comfortable when he's given the opportunity to get back to his roots and puzzle out how to get into places he doesn't belong. He doesn't consider that a hobby or a passing interest, but an intrinsic part of himself.

  • What would your character sacrifice to get what they want or to reach their potential? What have they sacrificed already? Pragmatic to a fault, Gambit is willing to make a lot of sacrifices to get what he wants, though those desires are usually someone's or a group's well-being rather than personal gain. During a time in which Rogue was infected with a lethal virus, Mystique brought an option to him: sacrifice the first mutant child born after the Decimation in order to save her by letting Rogue absorb the infant mutant's powers. He nearly went through with it, too, double-crossing the X-Men, joining the Marauders, and even kidnapping the infant in question, only to back out at the last minute, not because he didn't want to kill the child to save her, but because Rogue wouldn't want to trade the baby's life for her own.

  • What is a time where your character failed drastically at something and how did it impact them, what did they do about it? In an attempt to assist the X-Men in bringing down Apocalypse from within, Remy attempted to infiltrate his inner circle, but was captured instead and was transformed into the Horseman of Death. This Death persona sought to eliminate all Remy's ties to his old life and specifically targeted Rogue in order to destroy the emotions keeping Remy present in his mind and preventing him from taking complete control. After Apocalypse was defeated, his Death Persona was weakened, but he ultimately needed the aide of Mr. Sinister to restrain it. The entire spectacle, from the secrecy, to the betrayal, to the resolution in which he served with the Marauders and seemingly worked against the X-Men put them at odds, and even now, some of them mistrust him. Since then, he struggled with the Persona off and on for some time before he's finally been able to seal it away, but it's aided in many factions' mistrust of him, including the X-Men, so he remains somewhat an outsider even as he tries his best to use his gifts to aid others, mutants and humans alike.
